In 1974, I purchased my first pipe – a LaStrada half bent sitter.I enjoyed smoking it so much that I quickly bought 3 more pipes.Around 1980, I got away from the pipe until 2003.I once again remembered why I enjoyed smoking a pipe.I soon began collecting pipes – from different countries, different pipe makers, and different shapes.
When I first started buying estate pipes, I lacked the knowledge to do my own repairs, so I opted to send them to a qualified pipe repair person. I had a few pipes made by Tim West, and I found out that he also did refurbishing and repair work so I sent some of my pipes to him that needed repair. Later, I decided to learn a little about refurbishing and repairing.I also discovered that Tim West gave “one-on-one” classes on pipe making.
In August 2007 at the North American Society of Pipe Collectors (NASPC) show in Columbus, Ohio, I finally met Tim West face to face.Soon after that I bought a couple of pipe kits from Tim and made my first pipe.I was hooked!I quickly decided to take that pipe making class from him in November 2007. I enjoyed making pipes so much that I decided to make them part time and offer some for sale.I have gotten a lot of advice from different pipe makers about different aspects of the trade. It is a great community.
